M times two
The most spectacular premieres this year are undoubtedly two machines marked with the famous M symbol, which is traditionally worn by the most uncompromisingly sporty BMW vehicles. While in the case of the faired M 1000 RR we can speak of the second generation, when it comes to the hypernaked M 1000 R, it is a complete novelty. Both motorcycles share the engine and chassis, although these components are tuned slightly differently. In each case, however, we are dealing with excellent performance. The litre inline four generates 212 HP in the sporty M 1000 RR, and a «modest» 210 HP in the unfaired M 1000 R. Yes, 210 HP in a naked, which makes this model the most powerful player in its segment. Of course, both motorcycles, apart from excellent drive and chassis, are equipped with the latest achievements in electronics and aerodynamics. The work of individual components is monitored by a number of systems, and appropriately shaped covers and wings ensure the best possible pressure on the surface. There are even brake cooling channels!
Andrzej will soon have the opportunity to test the new BMW M on the track. He has very high expectations of them, but it can’t be otherwise — these motorcycles are the absolute top in every respect.
The new standard for superbikes
There may be motorcycles that are theoretically more powerful and faster, and more beautiful, but the truth is that the BMW S 1000 RR has allowed for years to achieve the best lap times. It is simply a motorcycle that sets the standard for a superbike. Its next generation has gained 3 HP and now has 210 on board. In addition, a lighter and less rigid frame, which means greater agility. Additionally, aerodynamic wings will now be fitted as standard, pressing the front of the motorcycle against the surface when riding at high speed. In addition, the latest electronics and M. brake calipers. Andrzej claims that it could be a knockout!
The perfect roadster
For those who don’t expect extreme performance but still want to enjoy a characterful and satisfying road machine, BMW has prepared a new incarnation of the R 1250 R roadster. It is still powered by the most technically advanced 1254cc boxer engine with 136 hp, with ShiftCam variable valve timing. Dynamic Traction Control is fitted as standard, as well as the Eco driving mode, which allows you to reduce fuel consumption to a minimum during calm, relaxing rides. There are also new, optional Pro driving modes, accompanied by the MSR systems, which prevent the rear wheel from momentarily locking up when changing down, and DBC (Dynamic Brake Control), which supports the driver during emergency braking by preventing accidental acceleration.
In addition, there is a new LED headlamp with optional cornering light system, new LED turn indicators, a new TFT colour display layout and updated paintwork with a dynamic, sporty character, which can be further emphasised by the passenger seat cover.
Heavyweight Customs
This year we witnessed the competition in the R 18 Custom Contest, in which BMW dealers from all over Poland entered special versions of the BMW R 18 cruiser prepared by themselves (and with the help of custom workshops). We could admire seven wonderful machines, each of which proved impressive in certain categories, while as a whole the Liberty, the result of the work of the Liberty Motors Piaseczno showroom and Nine Hill Motorcycles, received the highest rating. The full competition gallery with descriptions can be found on the special R 18 Custom Contest page.
